This part of the hike is essential in understanding the true purpose of what you just went through. Now is the time to reflect on your journey, your experiences, and your memories. Be thankful for your transition to a good life and express your gratitude to those who helped you along the way. Be cognizant of what you learned along your path as well as ways in which you can continue to practice the new ideas and concepts you have applied.
PRACTICING GRATITUDEThe greatest gift in life is receiving thanks for something you did for someone else. The principle of reciprocity drives humanity to be better by cause and effect. Going out of your way to improve the lives of others through acts of kindness persuades them to then go out and reciprocate the same kindness you showed them. Similarly, expressing your gratitude for another person's doing is just as rewarding. I have included a letter I wrote to my high school baseball coach that expresses my gratitude for his impact on my life. Through sharing this letter, we were able to establish a common appreciation for each other's actions as well as tighten our bond furthermore. Take the time to express your gratitude for those who have helped you as you descend from the mountain.

CONTENTMENTAnother key concept to practice when coming down the mountain is contentment. Being content with what your have and where you are in life is one of the biggest factors in finding happiness and maintaining your good life. In his novel, 'The Happiness Hypothesis', Jonathan Haidt discusses this idea of contentment and how applying it to your life will bring true happiness. In Chapter Five, Haidt introduces the concept of "the paradox of choice" as well as consumption which cause us to be less happy due to comparison of others. In our modern lives, the status you hold is determined by what you own and can flash around. By practicing contentment, you will be free from the chains that tangible possession will have on you and you can experience the true happiness life brings.

APPRECIATIONNow that our hike to a good life is coming to an end, it is a perfect time to relax and prepare to come back to the "real world". In 'The Happiness Hypothesis', Jonathan Haidt emphasizes the importance of meditation in leveling emotions and regulating perception. Our busy lives are full of noise and distractions that stress our body and mind. The beauty of nature is that it allows you to escape from all the commotion and get away. Although our hike is over, I encourage you to frequently return to nature for therapeutic vacations. Whether it is a walk outside, or another hike, remember to experience nature to the fullest by meditating on the ideas and concepts you have applied throughout our journey.
